what do you think?

I don't know how many times I've written a freaking biography now... sometimes there is just too much bull shit surrounding our art itself. Personally I think the art should stand on its own. Who wants to read all the places I've had a show or went to school? Does it really matter? I think it matters more to look into the art. What is the message of the art? Is it good? Because lets face it... it doesn't matter how much school one has had or how many shows one has had... if the work sucks, it sucks.

I understand the point of it all. It is just such a tedious process. Anyway, thats all for Angel's gallery lesson 101.

but-If the work is GOOD..ya gotta have something written so the gallerys have something to say about ya when people ask etc..Sometimes I see that having a gimmick bio is the ticket-Like, some weird life story that makes their art more interesting..stuff like "I legally died and when I returned I had all this talent" or "my art is influenced by the mystical powers of animal spirits from nature" etc etc..LOL!! I guess its all image crap-but I like reading the interesting ones-as compared to.."ive been drawing since I was a child" etc{..like,what child doesnt draw?!-Haaa!

i feel for you. i got so turned off by many gallery-related issues that arose when i was in art college and started living the life. it was one of the reasons i decided to pursue a new direction to put my energies in, and leave art to be my forever favorite pastime..

back in highschool, when we had our art department finals, we had to present a biography and text about out works aside to our personal exhibitions. i couldn't deal with it and i had a talented-in-writing friend babble on 3 pages for me.

thats pretty amazing that they were teaching you all of that in school... i didn't learn any of that shit even in art college. i've taught myself the business aspect of it. and its not that i really even mind writing... its just the seemingly pretention of it. sometimes it just feels so pretentious. i hate that. but it is what it is and i like *davidmacdowell advice on it. hahaha, come up with an interesting story. we both know i can do that, right!! however, nashville isn't like LA or New York regarding a sense of humor with the art. its pretty straight laced here.
